Driver CPC

Driver CPC is an EU 'Training Directive' for the ongoing advancement of driving standards for professional LGV and PCV drivers. In line with European legislation UK CPC training is focused on improving road safety through the maintenance and enhancement of high driving standards, knowledge and skills.

The initial legislation for CPC covers two categories of driver;

Existing drivers holding current LGV and PCV licenses can continue driving professionally. Such drivers are required to complete 35 hours of periodic training over a 5 year period from the CPC Driver Training scheme start dates (Sept. 2008 for PCV and Sept. 2009 for LGV).

New drivers wishing to acquire a license after these start dates will be required to undertake the CPC Driver Training in addition to the existing practical and theory driving test, thereby enabling the candidate to drive professionally.

Periodic Training

For existing license holders, this training will be split into separate 1 day sessions over the five year period. Each session will cover one course module, with the following subject matter;

1. Driver Hours, Tachograph use and Working Time Directives

2. Safe Vehicle Operations and Loading

3. Maintenance, Daily Checks, Speed Limits, Driving Regulations, Signs and Restrictions

4. Safe and Economic Driving

5. Health and Safety, PPE, Risk Assessments
